Over the Indian Ocean, a Singapore Airlines flight plunged 6,000 feet in minutes due to intense turbulence, the airline reported on Tuesday. The incident resulted in the death of a British national and the injuries of over two dozen other passengers.
After that, the plane was diverted, landing in Bangkok during a storm.
The 73-year-old British man may have had a heart attack, according to the authorities, though that hasn’t been verified. His identity wasn’t made public right away.
The airline said on Facebook that the Boeing 777 flight carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members from London’s Heathrow airport to Singapore had landed at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
According to the Airports of Thailand group, Suvarnabhumi Airport’s lightly injured and uninjured travellers are receiving assistance at a specially designated area within the terminal.
According to Thailand’s Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit, Singapore will send out a second aircraft later on Tuesday night to take the passengers who are not seriously hurt and those who are lightly hurt to Changi airport in the city-state. He said the plane was scheduled to land in Bangkok at 9:45 p.m.
The British man appeared to have had a heart attack, according to Kittipong Kittikachorn, general manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, who made this announcement at a press conference on Tuesday evening.
