In a recent incident on a bustling highway in Abu Dhabi, an SUV collided with a pickup truck, raising concerns about the perils of abrupt lane changes. The Abu Dhabi Police shared a video of the accident, emphasizing the risks associated with sudden deviations and reckless overtaking.

The footage captures the orange SUV switching lanes just as it exits a major road, marking the initial violation. Subsequently, the driver maneuvers towards the left lane of a diverging road. However, in a last-minute move, the vehicle shifts to the right, surpassing restricted lines and colliding with a pickup truck.

The impact was significant, causing the rear end of the truck to jump and veer sideways.

The Abu Dhabi Police took this opportunity to reiterate their caution against erratic swerving and improper overtaking. They emphasized the importance of ensuring the road is clear before changing lanes and advised against reckless maneuvers. They further stressed the need to use the correct lane when transitioning to another road.

In the eyes of the law, sudden deviation is considered a serious traffic offense, carrying a fine of Dh1,000 and four black points. Wrong overtaking, on the other hand, incurs penalties ranging from Dh600 to Dh1,000, depending on the severity of the offense.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules, promoting safer roads for everyone.
