Traffic Advisory for Dubai: Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road Truck Prohibition Timings have Changed

On Monday, the Dubai Police General Headquarters and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced adjustments to the truck traffic schedule on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Beginning on April 28, the time of a portion of the road running in both directions from Ras Al Khor Road to Sharjah will be adjusted.

According to the new timetable, truck traffic is restricted in the morning between 6.30 and 8.30 a.m. and in the afternoon between 1 and 3 p.m. and 5.30 and 8 p.m.

Following recent in-depth studies that demonstrated the urgent need for such modifications, the decision was reached in cooperation with Dubai Police General Headquarters to modify truck traffic timings on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road during peak hours. With this action, truck movements on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will be distributed more evenly across other routes during peak hours, improving the flow of traffic on the road. It is expected that this planned allocation will reduce traffic congestion on the road by as much as 15% during certain times, according to Hussein Al Banna, CEO of the Roads Agency, or RTA.

He advised truck drivers to abide by the new rules and use the approved truck rest sites strewn around Dubai’s streets or alternate routes like Emirates Road during limited periods. He also urged transport and shipping businesses to do the same.
