Authorities and the couple reported that Indian police have detained three individuals and are looking for four more who are suspected of attacking two tourists and gang-raping the woman.
Pitamber Singh Kherwar, the superintendent of police in Dumka, eastern India, told reporters on Saturday that the couple, who are residents of Spain, appeared to have been beaten when they were discovered by the police on a roadside on Friday at approximately 11 p.m. local time (1730 GMT). He added that the two people told investigators “their modesty had been outraged” in an incident involving seven guys, but he did not provide details about the crime or name the victims.
In a video interview, the couple—who gave their names to Spanish TV station Antena 3 as Vicente and Fernanda—claimed that the guys had sexually assaulted Fernanda and repeatedly struck Vicente.
