Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee objects to US veto during Blinken meeting

ArabNews

RIYADH: According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries expressed disapproval of the US veto, which prevented international calls for the UN Security Council to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and reiterated calls for the US to take responsibility and take the necessary steps to pressure Israel into a quick ceasefire.

The foreign ministers also reaffirmed their shared opposition to Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, stressing the need to put a halt to hostilities, safeguard civilians, and break the blockade that prevents humanitarian supplies from reaching the besieged area.

According to an SPA statement, they expressed their opposition to efforts to drive Palestinians out of Gaza and placed a strong emphasis on “creating a real political climate that leads to a two-state solution.”

A number of ministers attended the meeting, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the prime minister of Qatar, Ayman Al-Safadi, the deputy prime minister of Jordan, Sameh Shoukry, the minister of foreign affairs in Egypt, Riyad Al-Maliki, the minister of foreign affairs in Palestine, and Hakan Fidan, the minister of foreign affairs in Turkey.
