The lives of the Palestinian diaspora living in the The UAE’s seven have changed since October 7.
Gathering the fragments of recollections from a house they have never been to, a few of them are interpreting the events in their own unique ways. Some do this through preserving their customs, while others make sure that Palestine will always be ingrained in the hearts of future generations.
Dalia Alqadhi had a range of emotions upon learning about the airstrikes in Gaza: astonishment at the turn of events, fatigue, and finally a sense of being “almost defeated.”
“I don’t think there can be any other reaction than shock and outrage when anyone hears this sort of news, sees such atrocities,” the UAE citizen with family in the West Bank said.
Dalia was never able to travel to Palestine, even though her grandparents reside there. Her deep-seated fear of “what could happen to me and my family” was exacerbated by terrifying tales she had heard from people who had traveled to her home country.
Ensconced under the UAE’s protective shield, Dalia is acutely conscious of the calamities that persist in Palestine. Every heartbreaking piece of news has an impact, and she frequently attempts to imagine herself in the position of others who struggle daily.
The feelings have become even more entrenched as the Gaza War has deteriorated. “Considering that is bizarre. Every time something similar occurs, I can’t help but think that if a few things had gone differently, it may have happened to me.
