In an effort to further defend consumer rights, the UAE’s Ministry of Economy on Thursday announced the addition of 46 additional infractions to Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2023, with fines as high as Dh1 million.
This is the first time that an amendment from the UAE has included this many offences.
In addition, the law established integrated regulatory systems and procedures and imposed over forty-three commitments on goods providers in an effort to promote ethical business practices and improve the pleasure, satisfaction, and well-being of consumers.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al Saleh, disclosed that 46 new categories of infractions had been added, with fines ranging from Dh100,000 to Dh1 million.
For instance, if a supplier doesn’t fix, maintain, offer after-sales services, return items, or issue a refund within a predetermined window of time following the discovery of a problem, they will be fined Dh250,000. If the provider disregards the standard specifications, guidelines, and health and safety requirements, they would be fined Dh200,000, he stated.
