Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Labs has announced its call for entries for the 5th edition of The Lodge program, a prestigious long-term residency for filmmakers. This year, in a significant expansion, the program is inviting applications from Asia for its 2024 cohort, in addition to Saudi, Arab, and African filmmakers and producers.

Shivani Pandya, Managing Director of the Red Sea Film Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion. She highlighted that including Asian cinematic talents aligns with their goal of enhancing global cinematic presence, cultural exchange, and enriching the world’s cinematic fabric.

Ryan Ashore, the head of The Red Sea Labs, echoed these sentiments. He emphasized The Lodge’s role in nurturing emerging filmmakers and enriching the global film landscape. Ashore looks forward to the integration of Asian talents with their Arab and African counterparts, particularly in the Alula retreat, offering a unique, collaborative experience that crosses geographical borders.

For this edition, sixteen projects will be chosen to develop their feature films. The deadline for submissions is set for 11:59 pm KSA time on January 7, 2024.

The 2024 workshops will be held in person, beginning with a special prelude workshop for Saudi teams. These sessions aim to cover various aspects of filmmaking, including script development, production, financing, sales, and marketing. Participants will also have the opportunity to pitch their projects at the Red Sea Souk during the 4th Edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival in 2024.
