We recently interviewed Dr. Mahmoud M. Sarhan, CEO of The Kingdom Health. Dr. Mahmoud M. Sarhan is a Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow, and Stem Cell Transplantation professor and healthcare executive.
Besides being the CEO, he also serves as a board member of JCDC, the Chief Scientific Advisor at Baby Cord and Stem Cell Technologies, and the chair of the Al Malath Foundation for Palliative Care. In this insightful interview, Mahmoud M. Sarhan speaks about an interesting project in Jordan that is set to go operational early 2027.
New Beginnings
We started the interview by asking, “Could you start by offering a glimpse of your much-awaited project?”
Mahmoud M. Sarhan shared, “The Kingdom Health project is a $400 million investment by Saudi Jordanian Investment Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.
The Project, which is located in Amman, comprises The Kingdom University of Health Sciences and The Kingdom University Hospital and is set to be ready and operational in early 2027. Construction for this ambitious project started in October 2023, the contractor has completed the excavation phase and started the construction process.”

We were intrigued to learn more about the innovative strategies adopted by The Kingdom Health’s team. So, we asked, “How do you foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within your organization?”
He responded, “At The Kingdom Health, we nurture an innovation-oriented culture with an inspiring team, which is still growing, that is committed to achieving the objectives, vision, and mission of our organization.
The Kingdom Health is led by highly qualified Jordanian professionals and talents, who are very passionate about the project because of its developmental impact on Jordan, as it seeks to contribute to transforming the quality of healthcare services, medical education, and scientific research in Jordan and the wider region. Staying Ahead Of The Curve
Eager to learn more about the approaches opted by The Kingdom Health to ensure the project has a strong position in the industry, we inquired, “In the context of global competition, how has your company adapted its strategies to maintain a competitive edge?”
Dr. Sarhan replied, “The Kingdom Health is a new academic and medical destination landmark that will provide high-quality healthcare services and medical education following the highest international standards.
Its mission is to become a leading and cooperating center in the region as we bring together local talents and global expertise. We are partnering with two of the most globally renowned institutions in the fields of healthcare and medical education.”
To learn more about The Kingdom Health and to get a view of their upcoming plans, we asked, “Could you tell us more about your services/products and if you have any upcoming plans regarding them?”
He shared, “On the details of the Project, the Kingdom University of Health Sciences, will start with a medical school with a total capacity for 600 students and an annual intake of 100 students – while the Kingdom University Hospital, a 330-bed hospital with 72 outpatient clinics and a dedicated children’s hospital.
The University Hospital will include five medical centers of excellence, focused on providing expertise around the most common and fastest-growing non-communicable diseases in Jordan and the wider region, including cardiovascular diseases, Hematology/Oncology, Neurosciences, Gastroenterology, and Orthopedics and Movement.”
“The Kingdom Health project aims to enhance the position of Jordan and the region in the scientific and medical fields. The venture will also focus on driving advanced medical research by establishing four research centers in the fields of Genomics and Precision Medicine, Stem Cells and Advanced Cellular Therapy, Bioinformatics, Health Systems, and Public Health. Nearly 7% of the hospital’s revenues will be dedicated to scientific research and development.
