The earthquake in Japan is expected to cost insurers $6.4 billion, with almost 100 people dead.

According to US-based catastrophe modeling firm Karen Clark & Co (KCC) estimate, insured losses from the terrible earthquake in Japan may total $6.4 billion.

According to KCC, losses from residential properties make up more than two-thirds of the total because most afflicted cities’ commercial and industrial structures are more seismically robust due to their steel construction.

On New Year’s Day afternoon, an earthquake rocked the Noto peninsula in western Japan, leveling houses, causing a tsunami, and cutting off isolated villages.

The disaster’s death toll is getting close to 100, and the US announced on Friday that it is getting ready to send military personnel to provide assistance and logistical support.

The United States is here to assist our allies and friends in responding to earthquakes. Food, additional supplies, and logistical assistance for the military are being prepared.” Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador to Japan, shared on the social networking platform X.
China’s offer of assistance has been turned down by Japan, which is currently in discussions with the US about emergency relief.
Given the circumstances on the ground and the work necessary to welcome them, we are not currently receiving any personnel or material aid from other nations or areas,” stated Japan’s top spokesperson, Yoshimasa Hayashi.
