Starmer Makes his First Overseas trip as UK PM, to Washington.

Just a few days after taking office after an overwhelming election victory, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is taking off for Washington this week to debut internationally. Starmer, 61, is making his first overseas trip since taking office as British prime minister last Friday. He will be present at NATO’s 75th anniversary summit in the US capital.

In addition to communicating any specific messages, it will be a chance for him to learn from and get to know other leaders “AFP was informed by foreign policy expert James Strong.

One of the most steadfast allies of Ukraine was the former Conservative government of Britain, which gave it cash, weapons, and military training to help it repel Russia’s invasion. Starmer is anticipated to personally reiterate his support for Kyiv under Labour to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the NATO summit.

Since last Thursday’s election, Starmer’s defence secretary John Healey has already travelled to Ukraine, and foreign secretary David Lammy has been visiting NATO members in Europe.

Labour is a staunch supporter of the alliance and supports the Conservatives’ pledge to increase defence spending to 2.5 percent of GDP, which is higher than the two percent NATO target.
