Sombrero Galaxy Agency Co-Founder Shares Blockchain Scalability Insights at Future Blockchain Summit

At the recent Future Blockchain Summit, Leila Salieva, co-founder of Sombrero Galaxy Agency and a prominent blockchain strategist and marketing expert, highlighted the critical challenges facing blockchain scalability. Addressing industry leaders, she discussed the scalability trilemma, which requires balancing security, scalability, and decentralization — often forcing trade-offs to achieve progress.

“Sacrificing decentralization can be necessary in some scenarios, though it’s important to consider the consequences,” Leila noted. She encouraged attendees to recognize smart contracts’ current limitations and explore emerging consensus mechanisms that may unlock new applications for blockchain technology.

Leila stressed the importance of educating traditional Web2 users, bridging the gap to foster understanding and integration of blockchain capabilities. “Improving transaction speed and scalability may require larger block sizes or shorter block intervals, which could increase network vulnerability or lead to centralization,” she added.

For those building blockchain projects, Leila advised a comprehensive market analysis to address the core requirements for scalability effectively.

She outlined best practices for ensuring security in scalable solutions, particularly emphasizing consensus mechanisms such as Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT), which use cryptography to protect data. She cited Hyperledger Fabric’s implementation of Practical BFT (PBFT) and DMD Diamond’s development of Honey Badger BFT (HBBFT) as examples. Additionally, Leila underscored the importance of a well-defined governance structure: “Establishing clear roles and voting algorithms within governance frameworks is essential.”

Leila concluded by calling for collaboration among developers, researchers, and industry stakeholders to establish standards and best practices. “Current technology has limitations; smart contracts restrict many use cases, and there’s limited understanding of existing consensus mechanisms,” she observed.

She ended her presentation by urging participants to share knowledge, emphasizing that collaborative efforts can strengthen networks and support innovation across the industry.
