Fans of Formula One celebrated after Lewis Hamilton won the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday night on the coast of Jeddah.
Three standing starts, two restarts, several safety cars, and a fierce back-and-forth amongst the championship contenders were all part of the action during the race on the Jeddah street circuit under the lights.
Even though Max Verstappen had to give up a position he had illegally earned to the Mercedes driver twice during the race, Hamilton still emerged victorious.
It was an intensely exciting and scary experience, starting from the moment Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton clashed until Mick Schumacher crashed. Abdul Aziz, a euphoric fan at the event in Jeddah, said, “We saw a racecar being towed away, sparks flying… we’re just happy no one was hurt and my favourite Hamilton won!”
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made an unexpected visit at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, to the jubilant cheers of the spectators.
“We were screaming in excitement and all of us were applauding the man who is the reason all of this is possible,” Mohammed Irfan stated.
His vision and determination to pull this off in just eight months have allowed my friends, family, and nation to host this world championship. If you ask me, other than the race, this was the high point of the evening.”
