RIYADH: On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the ministerial committee appointed by the unprecedented joint Islamic-Arab summit met in Moscow.
The head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Indonesia were among the committee members who attended the joint Islamic-Arab summit on Tuesday in Riyadh.
Lavrov applauded the committee’s efforts to establish a durable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In line with UN resolutions, the peace summit in Cairo, and the exceptional combined Islamic-Arab summit in Riyadh, he said, Russia backed efforts to achieve an early ceasefire.
The minister denounced as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law the collective punishment inflicted on people in the Gaza Strip and conveyed the condemnation of his government for it.
In order to prevent an unparalleled humanitarian catastrophe, he emphasized the significance of taking steps to put an end to all transgressions of international law and to increase humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.
According to the minister, Russia is in favor of initiating a comprehensive peace process that aims to achieve the two-state solution in compliance with pertinent United Nations resolutions and the 2002 Arab Initiative.
