Run-over incidents in Dubai resulted in 8 fatalities and 339 injuries.

In the Emirate of Dubai, there were 320 traffic incidents in 2023, resulting in 339 minor to serious injuries and 8 fatalities. Of those injured, 33 had major injuries, 155 had medium injuries, and 151 had light injuries. Director of the Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, stated

Major General Saif Al Mazrouei noted that some pedestrians cross roads improperly by scaling concrete barriers or going through mesh barrier openings even though there are nearby pedestrian crossings and bridges, and that other pedestrians risk their safety by sleeping under parked trucks to catch a nap.

He went on to say that despite the Dubai Police constantly launching awareness campaigns, some people continue to act carelessly, putting others and themselves at risk. He also mentioned that police patrols are stationed all over the city to keep an eye out for these transgressions.

He brought up the fact that, according to data from the previous year, the emirate had 43,817 recorded instances of crossing highways from non-designated locations. September had the highest number of infractions, at 4,591, followed by May with 4,252 and October with 4,239.
