Residents of the UAE Commemorate Eid Al Fitr with Joyful Celebrations, Family Get-Togethers, and Special Prayers.

On Wednesday, shortly after dawn, thousands of Muslims in the United Arab Emirates observed special prayers in mosques and Eid musallahs in honor of the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

The streets, shopping centers, and marketplaces throughout the Emirates were a flurry of activity following the Eid prayers and greetings. On the first day of Eid, restaurants and cafes that had generally shuttered in the early hours of Ramadan were now opening for a substantial breakfast.

Eid is all about large family get-togethers for Zain Alsayed, a resident of Dubai. My family and I have been visiting friends and mostly spending time with our extended family after doing the morning prayers at the mosque,” he stated.

Eid offers a fantastic opportunity to unite and rejoice as a group. There were perhaps twenty of us at the home of my father’s uncle in Sharjah. Individuals have come from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and like us, many of them have come from Dubai. Being together in one place to celebrate these happy milestones is incredibly wonderful.  According to Zain, sharing food during holidays is very important in their culture and many other cultures worldwide.
