As the faithful gathered for their iftar meal on Sunday evening in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque courtyard, a powerful display of leadership occurred in front of them. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of Dubai, participated in the historic practice, embracing Ramadan’s spirit of humility and kindness.
The unexpected presence of royalty stunned the assembled faithful, who fell silent in amazement. Some rose to their feet in reverence, while others were captivated by the towering figure of grace and leadership.
The omnipresent cell phones were also out, filming the moment for posterity when Sheikh Mohamed and his entourage entered the gathering for iftar.
The President motioned for the crowd to remain seated and begin their iftar, ending their 13-hour and 33-minute fast. In his soft tone, he inquired about the crowd’s well-being.
The President, accompanied by Vice-President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, sat on the ground as boxes of meals were lined up for the faithful.
