A statement from Mexico City International Airport Passenger confirmed that a man had unlocked an emergency exit and exited the aircraft on a wing on Thursday as it was parked and ready to take off.
The individual was given over to the police, according to the airport. However, dozens of other travelers signed a written declaration claiming that the airline forced them to wait without water or air conditioning for four hours while the flight was delayed. Fellow travelers said in pictures of the message that went viral that he took action “to protect everyone, with the support of everyone.”
“On a flight to Guatemala, a passenger opened an emergency door on a plane while it was stationary in a remote position, stood on a wing, and then re-entered the cabin without affecting the aircraft or anyone else,” the airport stated in a statement.
In support of the man’s conduct, at least 77 passengers on the AeroMexico aircraft to Guatemala signed a handwritten declaration on notebook paper, images of which were shared on social media.
The passengers’ health was put in jeopardy because of the delay and shortage of air. He preserved our lives,” the statement reads.
