Arriving early on Saturday, a four-person crew, comprising Turkey’s first astronaut, will spend two weeks aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This mission is the most recent to be planned entirely at commercial expense by Texas-based startup business Axiom Space.
An Axiom Space-chartered mission brought an all-European crew to the International Space Station. It is the company’s third launch into orbit, and it is the first time that national agencies, as opposed to wealthy individuals, have purchased all three of the paid seats. The mission is known as Axiom Mission 3 (Ax-3).
Since they were part of the first two Axiom flights to the ISS since 2022, Elon Musk’s SpaceX provided, launched, and operated both the Crew Dragon vessel and the Falcon 9 rocket that lifted it into orbit under a contract with Axiom.
NASA’s mission control operation in Houston is in charge of the astronauts once they arrive at the space station.
Around 400 kilometers over the South Pacific, the two spacecraft were traveling when the Crew Dragon autonomously connected with the ISS at 5:42 a.m., according to a live NASA broadcast. They came together in orbit as they flew around the planet in tandem at a speed that was nearly hypersonic, or 28,200 km/h.
