Together, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and a few well-known figures from the entertainment industry gave President Joe Biden a hearty New York welcome that raised a Democrat Hillary Clinton unprecedented $26 million or more for his reelection campaign on Thursday night.
“That’s the kind of president I want,” Obama declared, praising Biden’s ability to seek out common ground. The atmosphere at Radio City Music Hall was electrifying. Clinton succinctly stated the options available to voters in 2024, “Stay with what works.”
In an informal discussion with the three presidents, moderator Stephen Colbert called them “champion talkers.” He highlighted that “not one of them is here to appear in court,” a jab at President Trump’s numerous legal issues. The staggering amount of money raised was a significant demonstration of Democratic support for Biden during a period of consistently dismal polling. As he takes on Trump, who demonstrated in his 2016 victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton that he didn’t need to raise the most money to win the presidency, the president will put his campaign resources to the test.
