UAE Introduces Novel Initiative to Decrease Negative Traffic Points

On Monday, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) declared that those who drive safely on the first day of the new academic year can get four traffic points off their record. Besides, if your driving license has negative traffic points, here is your chance to knock some off.

According to the Federal Traffic Council, this move is a part of the MOI’s accident-free day initiative, marked on August 28, when thousands of students return to school after the two-month summer break.

However, negative points are a penal measure for motorists over serious traffic offenses. Besides, once drivers get 24 negative points, their licenses are suspended.

How to avail of redemption

To avail of the reduction, motorists should first essay a pledge on the MOI’s website to drive safely on the first day of school. They must not commit any traffic offenses or cause accidents on the day.

Moreover, the UAE’s Ministry of Interior directed a nationwide campaign in cooperation with local police authorities, which said,

‘A Day without Accidents.’

Brig. General Hussain Ahmed Al Harthy, chair of the Federal Traffic Council, said the initiative would increase road safety awareness. He also stated that” the announcement serves as both an encouragement and a reminder of the day’s importance in facilitating traffic safety and understanding.”
