New mosque in Sharjah brings worshippers back in time with its sculptures and lamps.

The United Arab Emirates is noted for its beautiful, enormous mosques with exquisite construction. But this new mosque in Sharjah differs from the others; it revives the simplicity of a bygone period.

On January 10 this year, His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council, dedicated the magnificent Sultan Bin Abdullah Bin Majid Al Owais Mosque.

Bringing the past into the present, the exquisite mosque’s minute details capture a bygone era.

The ceiling is made of polished wooden logs and fragments of date palm fronds that give it a bright, colorful aspect, evoking the artistry of antiquity.

An ideal fusion of hues and light is created by the old lanterns that are hung in various places within and outside the mosque, echoing the quaint past.

Just beyond the main prayer area, a designated unoccupied space is intended to evoke a moment when people would congregate to unwind, exchange Islamic principles, and disseminate information, including lessons from the Quran.
