Meet Dolly, the Indian Roadside Tea Vendor Whose 'Hot Chai' is Bill Gates-Approved.

An Indian tea seller has become an overnight celebrity after serving Bill Gates a cup of hot chai.

Dolly Patil, who owns the Dolly ki Tapri roadside tea stall in Nagpur, in the western state of Maharashtra, has a large following in the city due to his unusual flair and unique tea-making abilities.

The 30-year-old has earned national attention after serving Microsoft founder Bill Gates, an American billionaire and philanthropist. The instant I handed him tea, he said, ‘Wow! “Good tea, Dolly,” Mr Patil told The National. “He was very nice and humble.”

The encounter took place on February 27 when Mr Patil was called to make tea for “some foreigners” in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Mr. Patil had no idea who the “foreigner” standing next to him was until Mr. Gates released his video on social media the next day.

“In India, you can find innovation everywhere you turn – even in the preparation of a simple cup of tea!” Mr Gates wrote with a video of himself smiling and looking intrigued.

“I was called to Hyderabad to make tea for seven or eight foreigners,” he added. “I started brewing tea, and one man stood by me. I had no idea who he was.
