Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest manufacturer of “premium aluminum,” and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (“Masdar”), one of the biggest renewable energy firms globally, have partnered to pursue the potential for low-carbon aluminum growth and aluminum decarbonization.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the Chairman of Masdar and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, observed the signing.
Mohamed Al Ramahi, Masdar’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “Masdar is proud to collaborate with EGA to help decarbonise the aluminium production process. Strong partnerships such as this are exactly what the world needs to accelerate our path to Net Zero.
He added, “When organizations combine their knowledge and resources to help decarbonize vital industries, we protect the environment and boost the economy. This is core to our mission at Masdar. We look forward to developing compelling propositions for international markets to maximize the economic benefits of using renewable energy.”
To help decarbonize EGA’s current and future operations in the United Arab Emirates, Masdar and EGA will investigate collaborating on renewable energy projects, possibly including battery storage and the creation and storage of green hydrogen. The two businesses will also collaborate globally to identify potential for Masdar to assist EGA in powering new aluminum manufacturing facilities.
