If his party wins the general elections on February 8, Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, the spouse of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Organizer and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz, declared that his wife would serve as Punjab’s chief minister and senior party leader Amir Muqam would hold the same role in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Ahsan Iqbal, the secretary general of the PML-N, stated that although it was still up in the air who would lead Punjab, it is evident that party leader and three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif would lead the country for a fourth time if the party won the elections.
In addition, Safdar declared that his father-in-law, Nawaz Sharif, will run for the National Assembly seat in KP’s NA-15 Mansehra, a race for which the son-in-law has previously fought and prevailed. As an elected representative of KP, he informed reporters that Nawaz Sharif would take over as prime minister to alleviate the region’s deprivation. He added that the election workers had given him the former prime minister’s nomination paperwork.
According to Safdar, Amir Muqam is the PML-N’s preferred candidate for chief minister of KP, while his spouse, Maryam Nawaz, is the party’s nominee for chief minister of Punjab. He said there would be an official announcement in this regard later.
