Following the premiere of a Broadway musical that she co-produced with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai encountered criticism in her home country of Pakistan.
Playing in New York since last week, the musical “Suffs” portrays the American women’s suffrage movement and their fight for the right to vote in the 20th century.
Malala Yousafzai, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner, has drawn criticism from some for her alliance with Hillary Clinton, an active backer of Israel’s conflict with Hamas.
Since the start of the Gaza conflict in October of last year, there have been numerous intensely passionate pro-Palestinian demonstrations throughout Pakistan.
Clinton has openly advocated for Palestinian civilian safeguards, even while she has opposed calls for a ceasefire and supported a military campaign to drive out Hamas. He has publicly denounced the deaths of civilians and demanded an end to hostilities in Gaza.
The New York Times said the 26-year-old supported a ceasefire by wearing a red-and-black pin to the “Suffs” premiere last Thursday. However, professor and novelist Nida Kirmani stated on X that Malala Yousafzai’s choice to work with Clinton was “both heartbreaking and maddening at the same time.” What a complete letdown.
