India captain Virat Kohli responded to critics who criticized his T20 cricket striking abilities on Sunday after he smashed an unbeaten 70 off 44 balls to win the Indian Premier League.
With his 41-ball century in Ahmedabad, Will Jacks, Kohli’s junior companion, destroyed the Gujarat Titans. Kohli set up the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s chase of 201.
Bengaluru was defeated by nine wickets with four overs remaining thanks to an undefeated partnership of 166 between England batsman Jacks and Kohli, who has already amassed over 500 runs in this edition.
Though Kohli has been in excellent form leading up to the T20 World Cup in June, many are worried about his strike rate compared to a new generation of T20 hitters who play sixes. Looking at his season data, Kohli remarked, “All the people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well are the ones talking about this stuff.”
“Winning games for the team is what matters to me, and there’s a reason you’ve been doing this for fifteen years. You’ve won games for your teams daily, so I’m not sure why you would sit and discuss the game from the box if you haven’t experienced it personally. The top batsman, known as “King Kohli” due to his prolific run-scoring, has a strike rate of 147.49 in 10 IPL innings. In contrast, Jake Fraser-McGurk, an emerging batter from Australia, has scored 247 runs.
