IPL2024: Chakravarthy and Salt Help Kolkata Destroy Delhi in a Match Dominated by the Heat

In the IPL on Monday, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Delhi Capitals by seven wickets at Eden Gardens in the sweltering heat because to Phil Salt’s aggressive 68 and Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling stats of 3-16.

Mystery spinner Chakravarthy guided Kolkata’s disciplined bowling to hold Delhi to 153-9 as spectators and players withstood the scorching heat in the capital of the colonial era. Players were drenched in sweat.

With just one day remaining for countries to choose their squads for the T20 World Cup in June, players from all ten IPL franchises are eager to impress their national selectors.

With an opening partnership of 79 between him and Sunil Narine, the in-form England wicketkeeper-batsman Salt spearheaded the chase, as the two-time champions completed their objective in 3.3 overs.

For the third heatwave this month, the afternoon high reached over 41 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit), keeping the usually busy streets deserted at midday.

However, a nearly full house attended the evening game at the 66,000-cap stadium in the sports-mad city, and their home team did not disappoint as they secured their sixth win in nine games to advance closer to securing a playoff position.

Since last week, most of India’s eastern states and southern peninsula have been under government heatwave alerts; respite is not anticipated for several more days.
