Famous Urdu poet Munawwar Rana passed away on Sunday from a heart attack in a Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, hospital.
He was seventy-one years old and had spent the last few months fighting a protracted illness.
Rana was receiving care at the Lucknow PGI Hospital.

Munawwar Rana was born in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, on November 26, 1952. He is well-known for his ghazals and other notable contributions to Urdu literature.
He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014 for his poetry “Shahdaba.” He had, however, returned the prize, citing “intolerance” in the nation.
Throughout his career, he has won various honors, such as the Saraswati Samaj Award, the Ghalib Award, the Dr. Zakir Hussain Award, the Ameer Khusro Award, and the Mir Taqi Mir Award.
