India Orders a CBI investigation and Cancels the June 18 UGC-NET, Citing Examination Compromise.

The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test, or UGC-NET 2024, was canceled on Wednesday by the Ministry of Education. The test was scheduled for Tuesday nationwide, but the Ministry received suggestions that the examination process may have been compromised. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been assigned to investigate the matter.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, provided the UGC with some input on the test. There is prima facie evidence that the test’s integrity may have been compromised.

The Ministry of Education has determined that the UGC-NET 2024 will not be held to maintain the highest standards of integrity and openness in the examination process. Information will be shared separately for a new examination that will be conducted. The CBI will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter concurrently,” the statement said. The Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit has been requested to provide a thorough report on specific irregularities allegedly encountered during the examination in Patna.

Once the government receives this report, more action will be taken. The government is dedicated to safeguarding students’ interests and maintaining the integrity of exams. The statement stated, “It is reiterated that any individual or organization found involved in this matter will face the strictest action.
