On Sunday, a father who had his four-year-old daughter with him gave up to the police at Hamburg airport after a long time of talking with negotiators. The German police said that the man came out of his car holding his daughter and let the security take him away without any trouble. They shared the news on a social platform, saying the little girl looked to be okay.
Earlier in the day, the airport had stopped all planes from flying because there was worry about a possible hostage situation happening right where the planes park.
The trouble started on Saturday night when a man drove his car into a secure area of the airport, shot his gun into the air twice, and threw out two bottles that were on fire, according to the police.
On Sunday morning, the airport’s management said on the same social platform that they were still trying to talk to the man in the car and that planes couldn’t come or go until everything was sorted out.
A police spokesperson said on TV that they thought it was a father with his kid in the car.
The police think this all started because of a family problem. The man’s wife had called the police to say that her child had been taken.
The newspaper Bild said that the man is 35 years old, comes from Turkey, and the child is a four-year-old girl.
The man had parked his car near a Turkish Airlines plane and wouldn’t get out.
The police had said earlier that they were there with a lot of people ready to help and that the situation wasn’t changing.
The spokesperson said it was a good thing that the man had been talking to them for a while.
The girl’s mom came to the airport on Sunday morning and was being helped by experts to deal with the stress. After everything was over, a children’s doctor was there to take care of the little girl, the news said.
Because of what happened on Saturday night, 17 flights that were supposed to land at Hamburg had to go somewhere else. On Sunday, there were supposed to be 286 flights with about 34,500 people flying.
