Although an agreement was not finalized, US President Joe Biden stated on Friday that he was “hoping” for an end to hostilities between Israel and Hamas before the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
I hope so; we’re still putting much effort into it. When asked whether he expected an agreement by Ramadan, which begins on March 10 or 11, depending on the lunar calendar, he responded, “We’re not there yet,” to reporters at the White House
As he went to his helicopter to spend the weekend at the presidential Camp David retreat, Biden said, “We’ll get there, but we’re not there yet – we may not get there.”
Although Biden had stated earlier in the week that he anticipated a settlement by Monday for a six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, he has gradually lowered his expectations.
The 81-year-old Democrat made the announcement earlier on Friday, one day after scores of desperate Palestinians lost their lives trying to storm an aid convoy, that the US would soon begin airdropping aid to Gaza.
