Great news from Hollywood! Actors and big studios patched things up on Wednesday, ending the second strike that hit the entertainment world this year. Workers were pushing for more pay in the era of streaming TV, and after 118 days of pause, the SAG-AFTRA union gave a thumbs up to the deal.
This new 3 year contract will rise the minimum salaries and bonus of people who are in streaming. Also, another thing that’s giving actors and performers a relief is that there’s protecting against the use of AI-generated images without permission.”
The union is over the moon, saying this contract sets the stage for all SAG-AFTRA members to build lasting careers. Fran Drescher, the union president and star of “The Nanny,” celebrated the “Billion+ $ Deal” on Instagram. The national board of the union will give it a once-over on Friday, and more info will drop after that.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), repping big shots like Walt Disney and Netflix, sees this deal as a game-changer, giving the union its “biggest contract-on-contract gains” ever. They’re pumped to see the industry get back to telling fantastic stories.
With the strike officially done, Hollywood is gearing up for full production for the first time since May. Actors like Fanny Grande and Jessica Payne are feeling a mix of relief, gratitude, and optimism about getting back to work.
Hollywood had its share of concerns during the strike, with actors worried about pay and advancements in artificial intelligence. Big names like George Clooney stood with lower-level actors, pushing for a resolution. The disruptions cost California over billion, and many crew members had a tough time making ends meet.
Now after everything, Hollywood can go back to telling stories that keep us glued to the screen.
