We recently had the opportunity to interview Mr. Curro Nicolau, Founder and Chairman of Go Energy Group. Curro’s two decades of expertise in large-scale international renewable energy projects are well-reflected by his approaches of following authentic leadership in the new Green Energy world.
The Chairman of Go Energy Group along with his team is paving the way for a fresh approach in green energy investment and forward-looking aspects in this field. In this interview, Curro Nicolau speaks about his professional journey over these years, challenges in this field, plans for his organization, and his perspective on building cooperation within the team.
Spark Behind This Journey
We started the interview by asking, “What inspired you to start your professional journey in this field?”
Curro shared, “Twenty years ago in the most important Law Firm in Europe, as a lawyer, I observed how renewable energy had the potential to save our planet. I was eager to learn more about this technology that could save nature. This was my main objective and inspiration, to create a legacy, a clean future for new generations.”
Glimpse Of Curro Nicolau’s Life
We were curious to learn more about Curro Nicolau’s life and his business. So, we asked, “Could you tell us more about yourself and your business?”
He replied, “At the beginning, my career has been developed mostly in the legal field as a lawyer specialist in energy, oil & gas, and mining. I started professionally as a lawyer in important Law firms – Garrigues, Broseta – in Spain, and later became independent and created my own Company with Headquarters in UAE and offices in the USA, Japan, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. This was the first step in my career to create a big player in the Green Hydrogen and PV solar business, the Company Go Energy Group.
Today with projects in countries all over the world. We currently have strong collaborators in the field of renewable energy, with green hydrogen being our main commitment. We are a development company with investments in large-scale projects and a big pipeline of projects with more than 3 GW around the world. We have strong partnerships with big investment corporations and leaders in our target countries.”
Busting Common Myths
Every industry has certain prevalent misconceptions that need to be addressed by an industry expert. We asked, “What’s a common misconception about your industry or role that you´d like to address?”
Curro responded, “On the one hand, some governments sell in their political programs the need to implement this type of green energy, since at the moment, it seems the only possibility is to reduce carbon emissions. On the other hand, the processing of all kinds of licenses and authorizations is extremely difficult in many countries.
On the other hand, society is becoming aware of the fight against climate change and the search for sources of energy that are clean and that do not harm the planet, but when the solar power plant is going to be installed in a certain town or city, then its inhabitants no longer see it with such good eyes. And a thousand impediments are put in place, without realizing that this message is contradictory, since today, there is no other way to generate clean energy, if not by using the resources of the sun, the air, and the water.
It may be that in the future new technologies like nuclear fusion will be known that are also economically feasible, but the truth is that they have not been developed today.”
Overcoming Major Hurdles
Every business faces inevitable challenges and overcoming them with efficient approaches counts the most. We asked, “What have been the major challenges in your business? How did you overcome it?”
He replied, “I am very satisfied with many of the challenges I have achieved. Each of the projects that I have been developing has been important to me, because each one of them has contributed to the progress of the company and has allowed me to establish links in each country, with my different partners, technicians, and professionals with whom I have been working. At the same time, it has allowed me to participate in numerous forums of experts in the field, where I have been able to share my experience and my point of view on renewable energies and green hydrogen in the new era of mobility.
If I had to highlight any of them, our commitment to green hydrogen is one of the latest advances and it is an area in which we have become a global benchmark. We have looked for very diverse solutions to optimize the resources available in each place and country, which opens up new possibilities for obtaining clean energy and products like green ammonia for maritime transport.”

To learn more about Curro Nicolau’s professional aspirations, we further asked, “Tell us more about your professional goals and how you aim to achieve them.”
He passionately shared, “There are many achievements in a short time, I would like to highlight some of them that are already executed and others that are beginning to take off. For sure the most important professional goal is the balance in my life to manage the Company all around the world. Many trips, teams, joint ventures, cultures, etc. It’s not easy to find this balance. So the most important thing is to take care of my healthy life. I’m an elite businessman like an elite sportsman. I always need to control my life with sport and good food to optimize my time, travels, and personal life.”
Encouraging Collaboration
To ensure sustainable growth as a business, it is crucial to promote cooperation among the team. We inquired, “How do you foster collaboration and teamwork within your organization or group?”
Emphasizing the factor of like-mindedness, he shared, “First of all, the most important thing is to recruit the best possible team of people, and once you have managed to build their loyalty. Nowadays it is very important to specialize and surround yourself with people who share with you the same enthusiasm for each project that is started and who do not give up in the face of obstacles, which is definitive when it comes to having a good work team.
It is essential to implement honest and motivating leadership, setting clear and assigned objectives according to the profile and skills of each of the team members. You share a lot of time with the team, trips, meetings, meals, in general, you share many moments of work but also leisure and that helps to get to know people, the problems they may have at a specific time, and favors a connection that allows you to unblock any tense situation.”
Envisioning The Future
We further asked, “How do you envision the future of your industry or field in the next 5-10 years?”
“This is a sector that is mainly subject to the results obtained from research. It is essential to invest in new technologies that allow the use of new materials and new construction processes. I think that in 5 to 10 years we will see major changes and new sources of energy may appear, but today and in the medium term, the only viable solution is green hydrogen. The objective has to be to increase its use, especially by large companies and new products from green hydrogen for maritime, aviation, and transportation sectors.” Curro shared.
