Flying Whales in UAE: Innovative airship could whiz in Dubai skies soon

The French company Flying Whales, which specializes in rigid airship technology for heavy-load transportation, intends to establish a production plant in the United Arab Emirates. Together with its partners, this action will create about 1,000 job possibilities.

The Whales, which are fully electric and have zero emissions, will receive certification from both the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). It functions similarly to a helicopter and is capable of transporting big objects to far-off places, including mobile hospitals.

In order to manufacture airships for every region, including East Africa, the Middle East, and India, our ultimate assembly line would prefer to be located in Abu Dhabi. We have begun the conversation, and should we establish a plant here, manufacturing will begin in 2027, directly employing 300 people. We will create about 1,000 jobs overall because other consortium firms will also travel to the UAE to make parts, according to Sébastien Bougon, chairman and CEO of Flying Whales.

The airship was named after the whale since it was intended to resemble the marine mammal. It can transport wind blades, high-voltage towers, industrial pieces, hospitals, etc.
