Experts in Dubai Predict that as Airlines Strive to Become more Environmentally Friendly, Airfares will Increase

Experts in Dubai Predict that as Airlines Strive to Become more Environmentally Friendly, Airfares will Increase.

During a conference on Monday in Dubai, experts predicted that air travel would soon become more costly, with some of the increased costs Airlines being borne by consumers. Travelers will be hit hardest and see price increases as the aviation industry focuses on sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and strives for net zero by 2050.

Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, stated that “the transition to net zero will require customers to pay.” “Our largest expense is fuel.” Using sustainable aviation fuel will cost at least three times as much as conventional fuel. Though we are making every effort to maintain low prices as an industry, the expenses will eventually need to be covered.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) conference is taking place in Dubai for three days, and Walshe was giving a speech.

However, Emirates President Sir Tim Clark gave off a more upbeat vibe regarding the change. He predicted that prices would eventually decline even though they might temporarily rise. The journey towards SAF and decarbonization is just getting started. Achieving your desired levels and obtaining additional investment is the key to this. Scaling will ultimately result in a decrease in cost. He also mentioned the possibility that airlines might cover “some, if not all,” of the expenses. IATA declared on Sunday that they expect to triple SAF production to 1.9 billion liters this year.
