During Eid, the Most Frequent Emergencies UAE Doctors See are Firework Burns and Overeating

Doctors in the United Arab Emirates frequently treat emergency cases with potentially fatal burns from illegal fireworks explosions during the Eid Al Fitr festivities. Unauthorized imports and sales of fireworks continue in the nation despite strict legislation banning them and fines of up to Dh100,000.

“We have observed incidents where people sustain potentially fatal injuries and considerable limb damage as a result of fireworks going off uncontrollably or being abused,” stated Dr. Shimna Suhail, an emergency room physician at Aster Hospital Al Qusais.

18.5 tons of illicit pyrotechnics were found, and the Ras Al Khaimah Police detained a dealer on Monday. Authorities emphasized that fireworks are illegal in the nation because of the risks involved with their use and advised citizens against using or trafficking them. The UAE Public Prosecution also warned over the weekend regarding steep fines for dealing in fireworks.

During the Eid holidays, emergency hospitals also see various instances connected to burns. Families are assembling in the kitchen to celebrate and cook traditional feasts. However, according to Dr. Shimna, this increased activity also raises the danger of accidents, which could result in serious injuries needing emergency care and intensive care.

All around the nation, law enforcement agencies have urged citizens, particularly the younger generation, to drive safely and abstain from risky behaviors like racing or careening close to residential areas.
