The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Chairman of the Executive Council, enacted a new law on Sunday to prohibit the use of single-use plastic bags in Dubai starting January 1, 2024. This legislation, however, makes exceptions for certain types of thin plastic bags used for packaging meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, grains, bread, and for garbage bags, as well as products destined for export or re-export.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to safeguard the region’s natural environment and its diverse wildlife. It also seeks to encourage the community to engage in more sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
