Dubai has strong thunderstorms and heavy rain; a public safety alert is issued

Many people in Dubai woke up to the sound of thunder and torrential rain on Friday morning, after a foggy, gray sky and light rain teased them yesterday evening in some areas of the city.

As Dubai Police issued a public safety advisory to all residents cautioning them to avoid beaches and places vulnerable to flash floods, phones began to flash warnings.

Dubai was hit by lightning and thunder, creating a spectacular display of light in the sky.
Other emirates in the nation were also overtaken by lightning and torrential rain.

In the photo, shot by KT employee Shihab, early-morning school buses and drivers in Sharjah are seen navigating flooded roads, as other people wait for buses and taxis to resume their regular operations.

Across the nation, the National Centre of Meteorology issued orange and yellow alerts alerting citizens to potentially dangerous weather conditions for outdoor activities.

Due to the unpredictable weather, Dubai schools have shifted to online instruction. Parents have been notified via emails of this abrupt move.

Authorities in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ajman ordered schools to switch to remote learning for today.
