Globe Soccer Awards

Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, who will turn 39 next month, dropped a hint about a possible retirement date during the recent Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai. Fans and football enthusiasts worldwide have been speculating about how long the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star will continue to play the sport.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Ronaldo jokingly remarked, “At the moment, when I finish, I don’t know, to be honest. But of course, (it) will be soon. Soon, I mean, 10 years more. But no, I’m joking.”

During the event, Ronaldo received accolades, including the Best Middle East Player and Fans Favorite Player awards. Despite his stellar career, Ronaldo emphasized that criticism has always motivated him, and he expressed his determination to compete against young talents like Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

“I’m always dealing with that,” Ronaldo said regarding the criticism he faces.

Reflecting on his career journey and the comparisons with his peer Lionel Messi, Ronaldo highlighted how challenges have made him stronger. He stated, “I’ve been a professional for 22 years. It is part of my journey. To be a better man, to be a better player, a better father. So it’s good. I like when people doubt about me and I prove again that I can be successful.”

Ronaldo, who has scored 20 goals in 18 Saudi Pro League matches this season, also praised the competitiveness of the league. He commented, “To be honest, the Saudi League is not worse than the France league, in my opinion. In the France league, you have two, three teams with a good level. In Saudi, no. I think it is more competitive.”

The football legend’s remarks at the awards ceremony have left fans curious about the timeline of his illustrious career as he continues to make an impact on the sport at 39.
