In a recent visit central to COP28 discussions, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, designated head of the COP28 event, praised China’s monumental strides in climate action. His engagement with China holds significant importance in the build-up to the much-anticipated COP28 meeting.

Having in-depth discussions with key Chinese figures and Laurence Tubiana, a pivotal contributor to the Paris Agreement, Dr. Al Jaber emphasized the urgency of COP28’s action plan. The key takeaway from his COP28-focused speech was the urgent need to adhere to the Paris Agreement’s core principles.

Highlighting COP28’s global objectives, Dr. Al Jaber lauded China’s renewable energy commitments, noting their alignment with COP28’s ambition to triple renewable energy use by 2030. “China’s dedication in the lead-up to COP28 sets a benchmark. Their progressive steps in renewable energy reflect the goals and spirit of COP28,” he stated.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative, poised to be a significant topic at COP28, was also underlined as a transformative green project supporting global sustainable development.

In preparation for the COP28 summit, Dr. Al Jaber stressed the imperative for countries to increase their financial pledges. The call to action aligns with COP28’s overarching mission to provide substantial support for nations grappling with the impacts of climate change.

Concluding his pre-COP28 visit, he applauded China’s notable environmental achievements, setting the stage for what’s to come in the forthcoming COP28 deliberations.

With COP28 on the horizon, Dr. Al Jaber’s engagements and speeches serve as a prelude to the monumental decisions and strategies that the global community anticipates.
