Artificial Intelligence

Comparing the need to how nation-states are monitored for nuclear arms protection,

The UAE called for a global partnership to develop and use artificial intelligence worldwide.

Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated that the world urgently needs to cooperate to police AI.

He told the Nationals Connectivity Forum, “Only the world knows if they disclosed or not when the country starts to enrich uranium to weapons grade. Besides, certain parameters, systems, and mechanisms enable us to know that, ‘OK, we are concerned that this country is moving towards weapons-grade uranium.’

He added, ” We need to have the same level of rigor and Sam a level of oversight on AI.”

AI specifically and Technology are at a critical inflection point; as large language models become more sophisticated, experts are raising the alarm over potential dangers.

When OpenAI launched its AI platform ChatGPT while attracting over 100 million users in less than a few months, companies have been racing to bring AI-powered products to market since last year.

On Tuesday, the US Congress held a hearing to discuss how many lawmakers might regulate AI.

Sam Altman, chief executive of Open AI, told a Senate panel that regulating AI was.  ;” critical” and encouraged Congress to act accordingly.

Mr. Olama, who became the world’s first AI Minister in 2017, stated countries, including. The UAE cannot afford to wait for private business leaders like Open AI chief executive Mr. Altman or Microsoft choe executive Sundar Pichai to hash out a plan with lawmakers”.

He stated that Technology’s dangers have been in customers’ hands for around a decade, but it is now rapidly accelerating, which can not be regulated nationally.

He further added, ” Even though we are the most progressive, most proactive country on the Earth and can put in the place of the best guardrails and safeguards, if AI goes on the wrong tangent in China, or the US, or the UK, or anywhere in the world, because of our interconnectedness, it is going to harm our people.”
