In a dramatic finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia claimed their 6th Cricket World Cup title, overcoming India with a six-wicket victory. The match, defined by a masterful century from Travis Head and a resilient 50 by Marnus Labuschagne, saw Australia recover from an early setback to secure the win.

The Australian chase began on uncertain footing as India’s Jasprit Bumrah swiftly dispatched Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith, while Mohammed Shami removed David Warner, leaving the scoreboard at a tense 47 for 3. However, Head’s aggressive batting display, complemented by Labuschagne’s steadfast 50, turned the tide, forging a partnership that ultimately led Australia to triumph.

Earlier in the day, Australian skipper Pat Cummins made the strategic decision to field first upon winning the toss. India, setting the stage for a competitive clash, put up a total of 240 runs. KL Rahul was the top contributor with a calculated 66 runs, followed by a crucial half-century from Virat Kohli. The pair steadied India’s innings after a precarious phase that saw them at 81 for 3, losing both Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession.

Despite India’s valiant effort to set a challenging target, with Rohit Sharma falling short of a half-century in an attempt to increase the run rate, Australia’s batting prowess shone through in the end, securing them the prestigious World Cup crown. The final highlighted the competitive spirit and high-caliber cricket from both teams, as Australia reaffirmed their dominance in the sport with yet another World Cup accolade.
