The Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap was introduced by the UAE on Tuesday at COP28, with the goal of lowering industrial carbon emissions by 2.9 gigatonnes overall until 2050.
The strategic initiative, which focuses on manufacturing and hard-to-abate industries like cement, iron, steel, and aluminum, demonstrates the nation’s dedication to combating climate change and attaining sustainability objectives.
The strategy was developed by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in collaboration with key public and private sector partners. It was developed in accordance with the strategic objective of the United Arab Emirates to achieve Net Zero 2050 and with the third revision of the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology Sarah Bint Yousef Al Amiri stated: “Under its visionary leadership, the UAE has been a global leader in climate action for three decades.” The nation announced a strategic initiative to attain net zero by 2050 and signed the Paris Agreement first in the area. Our efforts to accomplish a gradual energy transition of all sectors are being carried out in preparation for COP28.
