An Emirati Woman on Crutches lives Life to the Fullest as a Deep Sea Diver and Marathon Runner

Amal Ahmad Emirati Woman resolved that her disability would not be a barrier in her life. She plans to participate in marathons and explore the UAE’s underwater regions. Giving up is not an option for this tenacious person. I believe that mental illness is what prevents people from living their lives; physical disability is unheard of,” Amal remarked.

Amal is a multifaceted person who does more than just sports and diving. She is a voice actor, social media star, model, teacher, motivational speaker, driver, padel player, and tennis player.

Shortly after receiving her degree in media studies from Sharjah University in 2007, Amal was involved in an accident that severely damaged her lower body. She suffered a nerve injury during surgery, which left her paralysed below her abdomen. Amal was receiving treatment in a hospital for over a year.

After the accident, Amal battled to accept her disability for nearly nine years. “I wasn’t alive, but I was breathing.” Nothing about life was fascinating. My daily routine consisted of going to the office and then coming home to relax. I wasn’t driven or aspirational,” she remembered.

Amal has had numerous metal plates placed throughout her body and has had eighteen surgeries to date. Amal remarked, “I’ve realised that this is how I have to live and that miracles are in the hands of Allah almighty.”
