According to Sheikha Jawaher, changing the fate of refugees must be a major priority on the global developmental agenda.

Her Highness, the conditions facing the world’s refugees today provide a glimpse into our shared future. The wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, is the chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) and a UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children. She has emphasized and stated, “We are passionately committed to alleviating the physical and psychological suffering of individuals who have been forcibly displaced.” Humanitarian efforts are important, but they are insufficient. The world’s refugee population needs consistent, ongoing assistance that upholds human dignity and enables them to exercise their fundamental right to a life free from danger and instability.

Sheikha Jawaher made this declaration in front of Mariam Al Hammadi, the director general of The Big Heart Foundation, and at a meeting with a UNHCR delegation in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Hanan Hamdan, the UNHCR representative in Egypt, led the delegation. The purpose of the meeting was to inform Her Highness of the UNHCR’s strategies and programs that are being used to support refugees and asylum seekers in Egypt and other nearby nations.
