Silina, a three-month-old infant, underwent complex heart surgery at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). Silina’s condition was complicated by symptoms like shortness of breath, heart failure, and recurring chest infections that required mechanical ventilation.
Silina weighed only 2.3kg when she arrived at SKMC and required a ventilator to breathe. Aspiration pneumonia caused by choking while feeding exacerbated her symptoms, making it difficult for her to gain weight.
She was repeatedly admitted to the NICU and PICU. Silina was diagnosed with Transitional Atrioventricular Canal, a complex congenital heart condition.
Dr. Antoine Girgius, Specialist Paediatric Cardiology, and Dr. Aleksandr Omelchenko, Specialist Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, led the surgical team that provided specialised care.
Silina’s mother thanked the SKMC medical team, saying, “Looking at Silina now, reflecting on the fact that she wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the high level of professionalism and expertise at SKMC, I know I made the right decision.” I am incredibly grateful to all of the caregivers who went above and beyond to save my baby’s life and return her to my arms, safe, sound, and thriving.”
This medical feat was accomplished by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), a subsidiary of PureHealth, the Middle East’s largest healthcare platform.
