A Houthi Drone Attack on Tel Aviv Killed One Person and Injured Ten Others

Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an early Friday drone strike on central Tel Aviv near the US Embassy, which killed one and injured ten.

The aerial strike rumbled through the streets, raining down shrapnel and scattering shards of glass over a wide area. Throughout the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Houthis have launched drones and missiles at Israel, both in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against it. However, until Friday, all were intercepted by either Israel or Western allies with forces stationed in the area.

The Houthis’ spokesperson, Yahya Sare’e, said in a statement posted on the social media platform X that the strike was carried out in retaliation for the war and hit one of the group’s many targets.

The Houthis claimed that their latest drones could bypass Israel’s aerial defense systems. However, an Israeli military official stated on Friday that the explosive-laden drone was identified on Thursday and that the strike was due to “human error.” The military’s assessment of aerial threats has not changed, citing the fact that Israel’s adversaries have attempted such strikes for months. It was a terror attack that was targeted to kill civilians in Israel,” the official said of the strike, Tel Aviv’s first threat in months.
