A 1000 MW Solar Power Purchase Deal Has Been Struck by SkyPower Global and ZESCO.

Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) and SkyPower Global, a leader in large-scale solar energy solutions globally, announced on Thursday the signing of a historic 1000 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This substantial agreement is a key element of Zambia’s Integrated Renewable Energy Plan, which aims to greatly increase the country’s potential for renewable energy to promote sustainable growth.

“The Green Giant Zambia project is a crucial component of our Integrated Renewable Energy Plan, especially in the context of our current drought owing to climate change,” stated Zambia’s president, Hakainde Hichilema. With Zambia striving to boost industrial productivity and realize our goal of achieving over 3 million metric tonnes of energy per year, this program intends to significantly improve our capacity for renewable energy to meet both present and future energy needs.

Michael Prest, Country Manager and Special Advisor to SkyPower, and Engineer Victor Benjamin Mapani, Managing Director of ZESCO, shared important insights at the occasion.

The Green Giant Zambia initiative is a monumental step towards a sustainable future,” said Michael Prest. By applying state-of-the-art solar technology and our combined knowledge, we will significantly alter Zambia’s energy environment and establish it as a global leader in renewable energy development.
