Sharjah will Provide Dhs 400 a Month to low-Income Residents to Help them Pay their Electricity Costs.

Under a contract with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), the Sharjah Social Services Department will provide low-income residents in the emirate with Dhs 400 per month to help them pay their electricity bills.

The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority’s acting director general, Abdullah Abdul Rahman Muhammad Obaid Al Shamsi, and head of the department, Afaf Ibrahim Al Marri, signed the deal.

Also, under the agreement, the department determines the beneficiaries’ actual monthly consumption and provides Dhs400 in monthly help to those who meet the requirements to be eligible for social assistance.

As part of the “Let’s Connect Them” initiative, one of the terms of the agreement states that the authority will not turn off the electricity in homes where an elderly or disabled person depends on electrical appliances for breathing or feeding apparatus. It also states that the department will not cut off electricity in homes nominated by the authority, which supports low-income families by helping them make their homes more energy and water efficient with conservation services and by lowering the cost of electricity and water bills for those nominated by the authority.
